The editor's foreword to the first number of this periodical, written by Dr L. Weikman, director of the German Weather Service (in the US Zone), states that it is published by decree of the US military command. At the same time, Weikman emphasizes repeatedly that The Meteorological. Review must be an independent scientific periodical. He also notes that war has confronted meteorologists with a number of new problems, with which we must agree. But we cannot agree with Doctor Weikman when he states that crush- ing Fascist obscurantism is only "Sa elimination of false (:) political teach- ings which disturb (:) the ,joint life of peoples of the world." It is very dif- ficult to imagine how the new scientific periodical can actually be independent when the director of the German Weather Service has such a "liberal," one might say, outlook ot} Nazi misanthropic doctrines.
