ANNOUNCES KANG KYON KILLID IN ACTION,
WAS NORTH KOREAN COMMANDER IP: CHIEF
Feiping, 13 September (Hsin-hua dispatch fros Pyongyang) -- The
ventral Committee of the North Korean Labor Party, the Headquarters of
the People's Army, the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, the
Cabinet of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, and the Democratic
Front for Unification of the Fatherland ,jointly announced that Kang Kyon,
vice-minister of the Ministry of National Defense and commander is chief
of the People's Army of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, was
killed in action at the front on 8 September 1950.
He led anti-Japanese guerrilla forces during his youth, was one of
the organizers of the People?s Army, a close friend of Premier Kim I1-
song, and a member of the Supreme People's Assembly of the People's Repub-
lic and of the Central Committee of the North Korean Labor Party.
