SOVIET TECHNICIANS TO TRAIN CCF -- Hong Kong Kung-shang Jih-pao, 4 Aug 50
Hong Ko", 3 "'mat -- 14'14"1'" 4?Pormation from Shanghai reveals that an
undisclosed number of Soviet technicians from the'Hung-ch'iao area in Shanghai
were transferred to South China last week. It is rumored that these technicians
were sent to the Foochow-Arno; area to train Chinese Communists troops in the use
of Soviet artillery and planes.
INSPECT KWANGTUNG MILITARY INSTALLATIONS -- Hong Kong Kung-shang Jih-pao, 10 Aug 50
Canton, 9 August -- It is reported that Teng Hua, commander of the CCF 15th
Army Group, and the Canton Garrison Headquarters, is scheduled to make an in-
spection tour of military installations in the Chu Chiang estuary on 9 August 1950
with some ten Soviet advisors headed by Khalitov.
After the tour, Teng Hua is to leave for Hankow to confer with Lin Piao.
MORE SOVIET PERSONNEL ARRIVE IN CANTON Hong Kong Kung-shang Jih-p1W, 27 Jul 50
Canton, 26 July -- During the past'teluweeksi a number of Soviet air force,
artillery, and naval technicians have been arriving at Canton via the Canton-
Hankow Railway. They are being quartered in Sha-mien, the Ai-ch 'un Hotel, bar-
racks at T'ien-ho village, etc.
Russians have been seen frequently in the. streets of Canton, but recently
they were ordered not to make public appearances except in company of Chinese
government personnel. This action, it is said, was taken by the Soviet authori-
ties to curb growing public antagolpiem toward them.
TECHNICIANS LOOK FOR TUNGSTEN -- Hong Krg-shang Jih-pao, 28 Aug 50
It has been reported that four Soviet technicians went to Nan-p'eng Tao,
an island located near the mouth of the Yang Chiang near Fort Bayard, Kkang-
tung, to survey the possibility of mining tungsten on the island.

TO SUPERVISE REPAIR WORK ON WAR-SHAH ISLANDS -- Hong Kong-shang.Jihorpao, 28 Jul 50
Macao, 27 July -- After the liberation of the Wan-sham Islands, some ten
Soriet advisors were sent out to the various islands which make up this group
to inspect sites for an airfield. Plans are now being made to renovate the San-
tsao airfield.
GERMAN POWS TRAIN CCF AIRMEN -- Hong Kong Kung-shang Jih-pao, 9 Aug 50
Taihoku -- A KMT intelligence officer reports that the Russians are em-
ploying German prisoners of war, brought to China ostensibly to work in the
salt fields, to train Chinese Communist air force personnel. These Germans
have their identification numbers tatooed on their arms and the letters "USSR"
on their backs.

Fourth Field Army destined for the ibibh, According to a reliable source, it
is said that these men were eight of the 12 Japanese Artillerymen assigned to
the Fourth Field Army who tried to desert while waiting for troop transport
trains at Canton. Three of the four who are still at large have been identified
as Shoda Yori, Harada Hisa, and Tanaka Toshio.
It is further said that these men were dressed in black by the Communist
authorities while being escorted from the Canton Garrison Headquarters to the
railroad station to prevent disclosure of their nationality.
