NATIONALISTS REPORT 350,000 .MAINLAND GUERRILLAS;
GUERRILLAS CONTINUE TO DISRUPT COMMUNIST ACTIVITIES
TAIWAN REPORTS KMT GUERRILLA ACTIVITIES -- Hong Kong Kung-shang Jih-pao,
15 Jun 50
Taihoku, 14 June -- Taiwan KMT authorities reported today that the present
strength of the organized KMT armed guerrillas.now operating on the China main-
land numbers about 350,000 and that their activities are being coordinated from
Taiwan under the able guidance of General Mao Sen.
During the past year, it is said that these guerrillas launched more than
2,000 attacks against the CCF, killing more than 60,000 and capturing about
15,000 Chinese Communist troops. Damages done to Chinese Communist installa-
tions, communications, etc., are said to be very extensive.
The Nationalist authorities claim that these reports include only the ac-
tivities being conducted by guerrillas directed from Taiwan by'General Mao Sen.
The anti-Communist activities now being carried on by the CNA remnants in Tsing-
hai, Sinkiang, Sikang, and Szechwan are on a sufficiently large scale to cause
difficulties for the Communist authorities.
KMT GUERRILLAS KILL CCP PROPAGANDA CORPSZAEN -- Hong Kong Kung-shang Jih-pao,
4 Jul 50
On 27 June 1950, a KMT guerrilla unit attacked and killed a number of meal
and women who were sent out by the Ying-te., Kwangtung, CCP to carry out prop-
aganda work in Ta-van village. This attack was the second of its kind during
the past few weeks. The first attack was made by the guerrillas at Ho-t'ou-hsu
in early June when eight members of the propaganda corps were killed.
Investigations are now being conducted by the CCF stationed in the area-to
prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

Shih-ch'iao, 10 July -- On 6 July 1950, a CCF military vehicle transport-
ing uniforms, leather goods, shoes, etc., under the protection of seven Chi-
nese Communist soldiers was attacked by a group of KMT guerrillas near Heng-
tung, Kwangtung. The guerrillas blew out the tires of the vehicle, making it
impossible for the soldiers to escape, and hijacked all the supplies as well
as the arms carried by the soldiers.
KMT GUERRILLAS DISRUPT CCF TROOP MOVEMENTS -- Hong Kong Kung-shang Jih-pao,
5 Jul 50
Pao-an, 4 July -- KMT guerrillas operating in Pao-an Hsien, Kwangtung,
are now attacking Chinese Communist troop convoys. Recently, they attacked a
small CCF convoy traveling on the highway near Wu-shih village, killing or in-
juring a number of Chinese Communist troops.
Because of these attacks, ?.t is said that the CCF authorities are now dis-
patching a guard unit with every convoy or forming a larger convoy to afford
greater protection in traveling through this area.
CANTON--WU-CHOU TRAFFIC ALMOST AT STANDSTILL -- Hong Kong Kung-shang Jih-pao,
11 Jul 50
Macao, 10 July -- Navigators on the Canton--Wu-chou Water route have re-
ported that the KMT bandit and pirate activities on this route are making nav-
igation almost too hazardous to undertake.
In June 1950, according to these reports, some 2,000 Chinese Communist
troops advancing to Kuei-lin, Kwangsi, on this route were attacked by these
pirates and bandits, and were almost all wiped out. Since this incident, it
is said that even the Chinese Communist troops hesitate to travel this route.
Results of the bandit-suppression campaigns,' launched during May 1950 in
the Kuei-lin, I-shan, Liu-thou, and Ping-lo areas in northern Kwangsi, which
were recently released are as follows: 620 killed, 1,277 captured, and 833
surrendered. The equipment captured included 5 mountain guns, 1,564 rifles,
526 pistols, 9 light machine guns, 3 heavy machine guns, 28,032 rounds of
small-arms ammunition, 156 hand grenades, one telephone set, 3 bayonets, and
one artillery piece.
To overcome the passive attitude of the masses toward the bandit-suppres-
sion campaign, in the lake region of T'ai-chou, Kiangsu, the Public Security
Bureau of T'ai-chou Special District recently decided to institute a program
for educating the people on the importance of the bandit-suppression campaign.
In addition, it was decided to organize local self-defense units to arouse the
interest of the public.
These measures have proven very successful as shown by the f4ct that the
people are now actively aiding the forces in destroying the bandits. Recently,
they cooperated in capturing Lu Chi-ch'ing and 20 other members of the KMT
Kiangsu Guerrilla Column of the China People's Anti-Communist National Salva-
tion Army, now operating in the T'ai-hsing area.
