INAUGURATE SPECIAL TELEGRAM SERVICE
AVAILABLE AT RR STATIONS -- Ziemia Pomoraka, Ro 356, 29 Dec 49
To facilitate the use of the State Telegraph Network, a special limited and
regular auxiliary telegraph service at railroad stations sad on certain trains
hsa been inaugurated.
The limited service at railroad stations covers state, official, sad private
business messages within the railroad area, and messages sent by PKP (polish State
Railxaye) clients pertaining to freight shipments. Regular service includes all
other private domestic messages. Railroad stations are open for auxiliary service
24 hours a day.
The Office of Posts and Telegraphs in the Gdansk Region x111 give unlimited
telegraph service at the following stations: Aleksandrox KuJaxski * Brodnica,
Bydgoszcz *, Chelmno, Chelmza, ChoJnice, Czersk, Elblag, Gdansk Glowgy +, Gdynia
Grudziadz, Inovroclav *, Jablonowo Pomorskie, Kartuzy, Kcynia, Kornatoxa, Koe-
cierzyna, Koxalexo, Kvidzyn, Laskoxice, Lebork, Maksymilianoxo, Malbork, Raklo oa
the Rotec, Rovy Dwor Gdanski, Puck, Reda, Runoxo Krainskie, Smetovo, Sopot, Staro-
gard, Tczex, Tereapol Pomorski, Torun *, Torun Mokre, Unislax, WeJherowo, Wiecbork,
Wloclawek, ZaJaczkoxo near Lubawa.
Stations marked (*) are also authorized to handle international messages on
the European continent.
Conductors on certain trains, as indicated on train schedules, are also
authorized to handle telegraph messages. Messages sent from trains are limited
to 15 xords including the address sad signature.
Regular rates apply for thin special service.

Installation of a dial telephone central at the Poot Office in Suiecie will
be completed ahead of schedule. The central ie being built entirely by Polish
engineers and workers under the superrision of the State Radio and Telecommunication
Enterprises. ~~
The central will be completed by 31 December 1949, within the Three-Year Plan,
Since old telephone instruments will have to be replaced by dial instruments, ser-
vice will not be available to the public before April 1950. The dial telephone
aesvice will include the village of Przchowo. Telephone operators will handle only
long-distance calla.

It was almost a hopeless task to get a telephone connection is Bydgoszcz
during the last 2 weeks of November, chile the central and dial services were under-
Bo~B repairs. The repairs were necessary because damp weather is Bydgoszcz has
been affecting the sensitive Erickson equipment and creating short circuits in the
network.
The repairs will be completed soon sad normal service will be restored. In
the meantime, subscribers are requested not to tie up lines by leaving their re-
ceivers off the hook.
Only 70 of the 2,800 Bydgoszcz subscribers can get connections at any one time.
Betueeu 0900 and 1500 hours, therefore, calls should be limited to the moat urgent
cases
The telephone situation in Bydgoszcz will greatly improve when the Erickson
system, nox totaling 3,000 numbers, is increased to 3,500, Extension of the
central is already underway,
