THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION Figures for the first 9 months of 1949 reveal an increase in import trade with the Chinese mainland from 39.34 percent to 22.99 percent of the total foreign trade of Hong Kong, as compare with the same period of 1948. It has now decreased to s=cond place in Hong Kong imports and fourth place in exports. Prior to the war, trade with the United Kingdom was paramount, but since the war, fate trade has been small. Imports during 1948-49 rose from 192,008,368 to 268,442,139 Hong Kong dollars. Exports rose from 54,637,E to 107,297,381 dollars. Wbile there has been little change in imports from Macao, exports increac-d from 89,843,873 to 174,301,060 Hong Kong dollars. Most of these goods are distributed in South China.
