CCP WELCOM SOPIBT FIINS -- Chuen-min Pao, 3 Nov 49
The motion-picture business is one of the important arts which has a very
wide appeal; therefore, in the building of a New China it deserves close attention.
Lang ago the psychology and technology of Soviet films surpassed those of
capitalist countries. In the past, under US imperialism, movie fans in China
rarely saw Soviet films, least of all any which carried deep educational meaning
for the working classes. The reactionaries forced patrons to see vile American
films. Records show that in the old China about 400 films were imported annually,
three fourths of them from the US.
We must get riff of these Pad fume af& supply native and foreign films that
benefit the people. We have already begun to produce some films but the supply
is insufficient. The Soviet Union can furnish us with fine cultural food. Only
with her help can our cinema business be revolutionized quickly.
I hope that many Soviet files will be furnished with Chinese words, and I
charge 'our film-makers with this as one of their important tasks. Only in this
manner will Soviet films be widely accepted and understood by our people. -- Iu

MARKET FCR US PICTURES DECtI1IPG -- Hain-sheng Wan-pao, 27 Oct 49
The Columbia Motion Picture Company's Far Eastern market, already reduced
considerably after the fall of Plies-ching and Shang-hai, will soon be gone con-
pletely if the current attitude of the Chinese Communists in South China continues.
This will be a severe blow to the US motion picture industry.
