Tn the Ukraine an ever greater mnnber of automobiles are being converted
to bid-atrial and natural gas. A considerable number of the automobiles in
b> yewka, Gorlovka, and Stalin operate on compressed gas from the coke-
chemical plants. In Drogobych and Stanislav oblasts natural gas is being used.
In the Azov and Dnepropetrovsk regions many tractors and stationary
installations have been converted to compressed gas.
After the opening of the Daehava-Siev gas main, the :basgeover to gas
autonb'.les was begun. The "Avtogazepparat" Plant in Kiev has begun mass
production of improved gas equipment for automobiles.

According to plan, the "Avtodetal "' Plant was to meter assembly line
production of primary shafts for ZIS-5 automobiles in the second half of 1949.
This. production goal was reached in May. At present, the output of these parts
has reached the 1950 level. An assembly line for production of aide shafts
was also organized during the first half year.
The plant is now organizing a third assembly line for the productive or
countershafts. This line vii start operating on 25 August.

The Ural Automobile Plant imeni Stalin in Miess, Chelyabinsk Oblast,
has decided to produce a large number of automobiles above plan by using
sevf". material, and to release 10 million rubles of working capital, during
the current year. To fulfill this pledge the plant will have to shorten
its production cycle. The plant is making extensive use of the method of
hardening parts by high-frequency currents. Over 300 machine tools have
been converted to high-speed cutting methods. Labor productivity at the plant
increased 20 percent since the beginning of the year.

The plant has accelerated the turnover of working capital by 5 days and
released over 8 million rubles.
WORK DWROVING IN ODESSA AUTO PLANT -- Pravda Ukrainy, no 199, 24 Aug 49
Great changes have occurred in recent months in the truck-bed shop
of the Odessa Automob'?.e Assembly Plant. Formerly a lagging organization,
it now does not have a single worker who is below his norm. This was
accomplished through the initiative of the Party and the shop managers, who
assigned skilled workers or engineers to instruct lagging individuals.

The Moscow Automobile Plant imeni Stalin celebrates its 25th anniversary
on 7 November. In honor of this anniversary, the plant has pledged to attain
the average monthly rate of production planned for 1950, to make a great
number of trucks above plan, and to save 20 million rubles above plan by
7 November 1949. In addition, the auto plant workeri have- pledged to begin
the production of the ZIS-155 bus, to develop experimental models of the
ZIS-111 light automobile, and to produce ZI0-150 and ZIS-151 trucks with
all-met,l cab.
More than 5,000 plant workers have.: already fulfilled their personal
Five-year Plan quotas.
CHITA MOTOR REPAIR PLANT EXCEEDS PLAN -- Zabaykal'ekiy Rabochiy, No 134, 10 Jul 49
The Tarbagatay Motor Repair Plant, Chita Oblast, considerably exceeded
the 6-month plan and realized nearly 150,000 rubles returns. The plant received
an all-Union prize for its performance in the first quarter.
