THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
In 1940, electricity was being used on 10,000 kolkhozes a..d 2,500 machine-
tractor stations. A total of 601 rural hydroelectric power plants which electrified
2,500 kolkhozes and 679 MCSe war built in 1945; by 1946. the capacity of rural
electric power plants had reattaired the prever level. Daring 1946 and 1947, a
total of 3,250 electric power plants, supplying power to 6,000 more kolkhozee and
800 more )'Se) were built; by 1948, the capacity of rural electric power plants was
twdoe as great as before the war, Several thousand vloctric power plants, to
supply thousands of kolkhozeo and 1,380 MPSe with power; are to be built in 1949.
Zn ?verdl6,7ek 'Jblest, 2,083 kolkh.ozes, 10 novkhozes, and 84 MPSB have been
electrified; 6,500 electric motors have been installed. Preparations for organizing
the first electric S'8 employing electric tractors have begun. About 50 rural
electric power plants have been planned for construction in 1950.
The so-called Oka cascade is of considerable interest. Six dams intercept
the flow of the upper Oka. The largest station of the cascade will serve 28
kolLhozee, will power the pampa for irrigating 200, hectares of crops, and will
provide power for 60 threshing machines and other kolkhoz machinery. Construction
of most of the stationn will begin next spring.
In the Ukrainian SSB, 132 rural. hydroeloctric power plants, electrifying
633 kolkhozee and 122 ICE-, were pt?.t into operation, 2,226 electric motors were
installed opt the bolkhr.zen, and 93,000 more electric light bulbs were lit in
1948. Ehat':'kov Obis-'. took first place and Tarnopol' Oblast second place in
the competition among the Ukrainian oblasts for fulfilling the rural electrifi-
cation per.
In the Armenian SSR, about 41'0, or morn than one third, of the kolkhozes
in t*a pepublic have been olr',rc-ified. More than 50 sovkhozes and MPSe have
also rebeived electric power. It is planned to complete kolkhoz electrification
in 1950.
In Kazakhstan, 193 electric power plantb were built in 1948 and 185 more are
rA&iir eamatruetion. Electric power permitted Irrigation of 2,000 hectares of crops
in 1.948.
