The station hag developed a system for mechanizing rice ultlvat!mn which con- sietently yields a harvest of 40 - 50 centners per hectare. Two new types of high-yield rice have been developed and turned over for state Inspection. The station has also giver, the state 500 ceutners of fine rice seed. This year, the station is developing a system of agrotechnical and hydrotechnica'. measures which will obtain a rice yield ui 60, - 70 c:cuia:arn per hectare, using crop -ro:;:t!oil methods. Two new types of rice witn_ an even higher yield will be turned over for state inspection. The station's ep-cialiste ar3 directing 12 brigade sections on rice sovktozes and kolkhozee of the kray. The Primorskiy State Selection Station will also have an exteneiva exhibit at the exposition. Among its other achievement' are new types of spring wheat which are resistant to stalk rust, high-yield barley, resistant to helminthosporiose, er.d an early-ripen- ing type of soybean. The station has also assisted the ]shay's kolkhozes and sovkhozee in obtaining high yields of perennial-grass seed. The station is now introducing methods which will result in a high ooybean harvest on an area of 30,000 hectares. New irrigation installations have been put into operation and the old ones have been expanded, with the result that the area of rice cultivation is three titres that of 1948. The largest new rice fields are situated in Lhankayv- akiy Rayon. In addition to the "lraenyy rybak" Kolkhoz the Rokossov ki A t , e y r el , which is part of the kolkhoz, has sown 200 hectares of rice this year for the first time in 20 years. The irrigation system has been restored and modernized. & harvest of 30 eentnere per hectare is expected. A good harvest will make it p?3ei- ble fec the kolkhoz to sell some of the rice, after meeting state deliveries and its own needs.
