The Far Bast Rice Experimental Station in Sa.atatchoze, Primoakiy Bray,
has been proposed as an exhibitor in the All-Union Agricultural Exposition.
The station hag developed a system for mechanizing rice ultlvat!mn which con-
sietently yields a harvest of 40 - 50 centners per hectare. Two new types of
high-yield rice have been developed and turned over for state Inspection. The
station has also giver, the state 500 ceutners of fine rice seed. This year, the
station is developing a system of agrotechnical and hydrotechnica'. measures which
will obtain a rice yield ui 60, - 70 c:cuia:arn per hectare, using crop -ro:;:t!oil
methods. Two new types of rice witn_ an even higher yield will be turned over for
state inspection. The station's ep-cialiste ar3 directing 12 brigade sections on
rice sovktozes and kolkhozee of the kray.
The Primorskiy State Selection Station will also have an exteneiva exhibit
at the exposition. This station has developed new mothode of eultivatiuR red
clover and timothy, of obtaining high yields of soybean by tieing complex mecheni.-
zation of field work, of soil fertilizing and liming, and of combating weeds..
Among its other achievement' are new types of spring wheat which are resistant to
stalk rust, high-yield barley, resistant to helminthosporiose, er.d an early-ripen-
ing type of soybean. The station has also assisted the ]shay's kolkhozes and
sovkhozee in obtaining high yields of perennial-grass seed. The station is now
introducing methods which will result in a high ooybean harvest on an area of
30,000 hectares. Volozhenin, the station's director, has proposed a number of
measures for combating weed growth, is working on a crop-rotation method of cultiva-
tion and is endeavoring to put it into practice in kray agriculture. ffiimenko,
dep?oty director, has developed a winter-resistant clever to be grown in the main
agricultural regions of the kray and :via nine pledged to aesiet the "Ncsaya zhiw ITT
Kolkhoz in Mikhaylovekiy Rayon to obtain a high soybean yield over an area of 1,000
hectares. Griteun, head of the agrochemietry group, has worked a method of culti-
vating deficient podeolic soil on the elopes of the Primorskiy hills and has pledged
to assist kolkhozee in Khorol'akiy Rayon to introduce crop rotation. Elentukh,
head of the section group, has cultivated a new type of panic grese for Primorskiy
Kray and plans to give the state inspection system a new early-ripening and high-
yield type of soybean.

A number of kolkhozes in Primorskiy Krry have sown new rice plantations
this year. New irrigation installations have been put into operation and the
old ones have been expanded, with the result that the area of rice cultivation
is three titres that of 1948. The largest new rice fields are situated in Lhankayv-

time in 20 years. The irrigation system has been restored and modernized. &

procurement (excluding corn) 24 August. The plan for wheat deliveries was com-
pleted 124 percent. folkhozes and eovkhozes have pledged to give the agate not

By the beginning of the grain-procurement season, "Zagotzerno" bases
and procurement centers in 12 rayons of Primorokly fray are scheduled to com-
plete and put into operation grain elevators and storage sheds with a capacity
of 26,755 tons, a considerably granter capacity than was built in 194U. Con-
siderable cork Je also being done to speed up capital and current repairs, as
well as reconstruction, of old elevators, which constitute 64.5 percent of the
total. elevator capacity in the ray. Procurement officials are paying particular
attention to increasing th. mechanization of loading and unloading grain. The
Golenki and Sviyagino centers, the Kamen'-Rybolov, Iron, and Chernigovka bases are
being electrified and mechanized. At some renters, new electric power plants and

In 1948, the Chukot National Olug fulfilled 110 percent of the,nlan for
development of reiuileer-raising. In 1949, by government decree, sixadditional
veterinary sections, a regional station, and a farm for raising Eskimo dogs were
ornnedy and a large group Of speciallets wurd sent to kolkhozad. As?a result of
the fulfillment of the 3-year plan, the numbet of reindeer will be ikerdaaeu 64

Patlay, deputy chairman, executive committee, Khabarovsk Bray Soviet of
Workers' Deputies, reported at the fifth evasion of the soviet on 7 - 8 July
that the condition of animal husbandry in the kray is Still unsatisfactory.
As of 1 July, the plan for development of animal husbandry had been met only
85.1 percent for cattle, 65.4 percent for pigs, and 27.3 percent for poultry.

construction must be speeded up on a wide scale if the animal husbandry develop-
ment plan is to be met.

of, a raw creamery in the v.llage of Prokhora. The creamery will process milk
products from the two kolkhozes in Prokhora and from kolkhozes in neighboring
