Before the war, industry in Macedonia was mutually nonexistent. Tble
year, however, the first agricultural machines (eeederc and cultivators)
from the new /ilcednnian factories were put into service on,llaeedonien fame.
.Many workers' home were furnished with furniture >loade in Iacedonian work-
ehaps. The first centrifugal,pump4, Tailrnad car orarws, Sad machinery for
drying fruits and tobacco have bee.i prudu.:ed this year by Macedonian industry,
and iron has r --v been t;rnlted in the new furnaces.
The value of Macedonian industrial production has riven from 32I illicn
diners in 1939 to seven times that figure tod.e. The ratio of industry to
agriculture has increased from 11:89 before the war to 22.5:77.5 last year.

ehops and primitive tools and are now operating large machines in the "Tito"

Railroads
Two ?tandard-gauge railroad line' were under construction at the end
of the first half of the Biro-Tear Plan, 30 June 1949. The first tummi
on the Bumnovo-Sveti Jikola railroad line was began this year. Thu 11nr
will be about 70 kilometers long and will connect the Insanovsko ant Ovoe
Pole, the two granaries of Macedonia. The 70-kilometer Bkopl,le-Ocstivar
