More than 3,500 women are now working In 7enica in ooaetructlon, wining,
metallurgical, and other manual tasks. n few years ago not a woman was employed
there in manual labor.
Over 2,000 women are employed in the larger construction enterprises to
excavate, unload, and transport building material. and on the railroads in all
types of jobs.
Over 850 women work in the Ironworks as repairmen, lathe operators,
electricians, electric welders, machine operators, and ordinary laborers. Before
the war, the only women employed there were typists.
About 75 percent of the labor force in ti.9 %ire plant, where wire and nails
are made, to made up of -women. They work especially on winding wire and packing
nails.
Tens of women work in the machine shops as lathe operators, fittera, and
electric and autogenous welders. An entire brigade of women works in the power
plant, and women work in all working places in tl.b coal mine except in the pits,
where mining regulations forbid their employment. However, they do mine coal on
the surface.
