MACRIICERY PLANTS INCREASE PRODUCTION
RIGA PLANT FULFILLS 1948 PLAN -- Sovetskaya Latviya, No 211, 5 Sep 48
The Riga Scales Plant has,completed the 1948 gross production
and quantitative production plan. Production of Gloriya and Beranzhe
acalos'has doubled cs compared with 1947. Production costs have de-
creased by 23 percent. Gloriya-scales cost 1,375 rubles in 1947
and now cost 666 rubles. The cost of Beranzhe scales-has de^reased
by more than 50 rubles.

The "Erasnyy Metallist" Plant of Riga fulfilled the year plan
on 10 September. During the remaining period of the year, the plant
will produce various agricultural machinery, stove fixtures, scales,
ironware, and other products, amounting to 700,000 rubles.

The Rutchenkove Machine-Building Plant imeni Khrushchev has been
operating without " state'subsidy for several years and is working
at a profit for the government. The plant has decided to make an
additional profit of 900,000 rubles by the end of the year.
The mechanical, electrical, and boiler shops have been placed
on a cost accounting basis.
At present, cost accounting procedures are being introduced in
the other shops:

Last year the plant im:nl 15-Letlya i,K3MU (in the Ukrainian SM.Z
had an S-million-ruble loss, Steps were taKeu to.rectify this situa-
, tion and lower production, costs.. As a result, plant production for
the past 7 months has been considerably above plan and an extra
profit has been attained. The plant has produced 6.?'4 percent ,more
elevators than were provided in the plan, 16.3 percent; more electric
winches, 14.2 percent more spare', parts, and 13.6 percent more of
various other equipment. The plant has accumulated 4,344,000 rubles
above plan.

The Sverdlovsk Motor Repair Plant has turned out two experimental
electric tractor The plant is now preparing for mass production of
these tractors. The first consignment will be sent to the Korsum?-
Shevchenkovo MTS in Ukraine in January 1949.

RECONSTRUCTED PLANT PRODUCES DRILLS -- Pravda Ukrainy, No 225,

The newly reconstructed "Barrikady" Plant in Stalingrad has
initiated mass production of drilling machines. Production is In-
creasing every month. The drilling machine may be moved easily from
place to place and may be used in all forms of geological strata
and at any time of the year. It takes only 8 days to assemble this
machine, whereas a month and a half is required to assemble the exist-

PIPE ROLLING PLANT STARTS PRODUCTION -- Turkmenskaya Iskra, No 181,

Construction of the Sumgait Pipe-Rolling Mill is going full
speed. The foundry and open-hearth-furnace shops are now being pre-
pared for operation and assembly of two open-hearth furnaces was
started recently. Blast furnaces, drying furnaces, and heat treat-
ment furnaces are being put into operation in the casting shop. The
ventilation system and mechanized sand-conditioning installations are
being assembled at present. The plant is already producing steel and
cast-iron fittings for the open-hearth furnaces, spare parts, equip-
ment, and instruments for the Dnepropetrovsk, Chelyabinsk, and
Nikopol? Pipe Rolling Mills.

The Bobruysk Machine-Building Plant.imeni Stalin completed its
annuli?. plan 2 months and 13 days ahead of-..schedule. The value of
machinery produced this year was 1,726,000 rubles greater than the
value of that produced during the comparable period in 1947.
