Formerly known as Communist Youth, it is now known as the Now Democracy Youth Movement. The Peiping radio of 11 April givea an account of the organization's first national convention, which was attended by 340 delegate, repree+nting 139,800 member.. Tht meeting adopted a constitution, laid plus for work, and elected an executive committee. The convention 'bairmaa Yes Fong Wen-pin. (Ueda: 13,682, 4,321, 3,112). As with the Sez Min Chu I Youth Corps of the EIS, the chairmen or Party Leader is the titular head of the Youth Group, but its actual "esponsible ~~. officer !.s the General decretary, to which pobt Fong Wen-pin was elected by the convention. Fong has been a highs, -placed leader of youth among the Communists for a long time. Re is now 40 years old, a native of Chu-chi, in Chekiang. He Joined the ENT in 1926, and the Communist Youth in 1927. In 1930, he vent to the Soviet Region in west Fukien, and was soon engaged in youth Mork in the Fourth Army. In 1933, the International Legion of Young Communists was organized, in which he was made political commissar. Later he became secretary of the Cen- tral Committee of Communist Youth. In 1937, the Youth Group was abolished, and he became chairman of the youth movement of the CCP. He met up at An-vu Pao in San-yuan County of tiher-41 a youth training quarters where several thousand youth were trained. Later he was sent to Yenan for further in- deotrination or to battle areas or the rear for work, to extend the youth movement, and urill many student cadres for the Central Committee.
