DESIGNS NEW AUTO GAS GENERATOR -- Sovetskaya Litva, No 109, 11 May 49
Engineers of the Leningrad Forestry Engineering Academy imeni S. M. Kirov have
designed a new gas generator for automobiles. Unlike other gas generators, the new
machine does rot require preliminary preparation and seasoning of fuel, but operates
on freshly out wood. Instead of seasoned loge used in the conventional generator,
the new mede1 can operate on twigs, wood chips, and bark. Extensive tests have in-
dicated that it is completely suitable for general use. It is of small dimensions,
easily constructed, and weighs half as much as the conventional generator.
NEV STEAM-POWERED TRUCE BUILT -- Bol'ahevik Altay, To :9, 3 Apr 49
Moscow -- The steam-powered, automobile construction bureau of the Soientifie
Reeearrh Automobile and Motor Institute has constructed a 6-ton stew-peered truck
equipped with a 3-cylinder steam engine. It can utilise either wood or coal as
fuel. The new truck is intended to transport freight in timber and coal regions.
CHELTABINSK TRACTOR PLANT TOPS 1950 IEVRL -- Krasnoye Znemya, Uo 97, 26 Apr 1+9
The Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant completed the first-quarthr plan ahead of sohed-
ule and is now producing caterpillar tractors above plan. Hundreds of tractors
have been sent to forestry stations and nurseries. In April, the plant exceeded
the 1950 level of proLuetion.

The Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant makes the powerful Stalinete-80 caterpillar trac-
tor, ^e well as trac:tJr parts, and various types of cutting tools. Workers of the
plant have decided to make dos.^na of tractca out of salvaged metal and other materi-
air, and o machine parts fcr these tractors from salvaged high-speed steel-.
