Ferrous metal enterprises of Stalin Oblast have completed the first-
-guartor plan for production of steel and rolled iron. The Btalino and
Ob7biMsti Metallurgical Plants were the first in the Oblast to fulfill the
plan for the whole metallurgical cycle.
The Plant ;issni Petrovekiy in Dnepropetrovsk has fulfilled the first-
quarter plan for the whole metallurgical cycle.

At the Stalin Metallurglpgl Plant, open hearth furnace No 5 has been put
under oosfplate automatic controY. As a result of this improvement, fuel ex-
penditur. is reduced 17 percent, steel workers' labor is greatly eased, the use
of refractories is lessened, and the productivity of the furnace in increased.
Two more furnaces are now being put under automatic control.

increased the melting of pig iron and have achieved the average production
level set for 1930. The workers have achieved a coefficient of 1.01, the beet

blast furnace No 2 have been remodeled, and, as a result, 130 kilograms of ore

On 15 April 1949r a highly mechanized rail and structural iron Shop was
put into operative in the Novo-Tagil Metallurgical Plant. Complete mechaniza-
tion and automatization has been achieved. The basic components of the new
shop are the Rolling Mills "900" and "800." Mill "800" is composed of more
than 200 machines end mechanisms built in the Ural. Machine -Building Plant.
The rail and structural iron shop carries out the full production cycle of
the Jovo-Tagil Plant -- from production of pig iron to the output of finished
mile and girders.
Plants of "Glavuralmet" (Main Adsdnistratiea of the Ural Metallurgical
Industry) have fulfilled the first-quarter plan for the whole metallurgical
cycle. In comparison with the first quarter of 1948, pig iron smelting was
'ap 17.3 percent, steel smelting Was up 22.2 percent, and rollel iron output
was up 13.6 percent. Workers of the Terkh. Is, Nizhniy Tagil, Sushva,
Chusovoy, and Terkhnyaya Saldaplants especially distinguished themselves.
