Leningrad
The local department of the All-Union Society for the Propagation of
Po3Atiorl and Scientific Information is oarrying on an intensive program to
familiarise the people of Leningrad with some of the achievements of U881
mslioine. A series of lectures and informal speeches have been scheduled.
Among the speakers are Marcy, Zakharin, Botkin, lrissan, Dobroslavin,
Opella, Fedorov, and Pavlov.
By order of the Presii?ux of the Upper Cat-cil of Belorussia, the
title of Fonored Worker of Science has been awarded to Prof Z.IC.'Nogilevehik,
direoror of the Minsk Ibuicpl Institute, and to Prof N.T. Petrer'. deputy
director of the a lentifio section, Minsk Medical Institute.

The Institute of Trophology, Academy of Sciences Latvian 881, has
started the production of hirtanine in a--des. Sons 20,300 ampules have
already been manufactured. Preparations are under way to increase produstiem
and to put it on an industrial basis. The Institute also sanufactnren fish
oils from the Baltic cod.
The Oblast Public Health Service is supplying various local hospitals
with 7-ray equipment. Already 21 cut of 31 rayons have received their
equipment. Special mention is made of the work of S.M. Torichov, X-ray
specialist In the Ivsno?Frankovck Ravon, who assembled a fluoroscopic
apparatus used for mess examination of workers of surro'Ading lumber cogs
and enterprises.

Sixty additional doctors have been assigned to Udmurt ASSR; twenty
of these doctors to varioils trachoma stations,
Workers Is making preparations to celebrate the 31st anniversary of the
Soviet Army,.' The workers of the Main Hospital of the Armed Forces USSR
imeni N.J. Burdenko are also preparing for the, anniversary. Col H.S.

An intensive building program is under way in this city. A budget
of 5,150,000 rubles has been voted for purchase of equipment for
therapeutic and prophylactic institutions. The First lSi icipal Hospital
will soon become fully. operational. Work will be started on a child and
female consultation cl:iic and a clinic for infectious diseases.
A quick trip around the nation shove that innreased medical aid will
coon be available to miners in various sections., A 70-bed hospital has
been established at lopeysk, Chelyabinsk Oblast. .The old polyclinic has
been affiliated with the new hospital. A surgical hospital with 100 'beds
is being opened in rareganda. The construction is under the Juriedictiea
of the Ministry of Coal Industries USSR. A polyclinic is being established
in the town of Akhalteikh to serve miners and laborers of the ?GrnaUgol'e
Combine. The Ministry of Public Health,.Georgian SSR is supplying the
oquipmont and pharmaceuticals.
The Ministry of Public Health 398R confirmed the appointment of
A.I. Golubev to the poet of chief, Administration for Municipal Hospitals
and Polyclinics, and deputy chief, Administration of Municipal Therapeutic
and Prophylactic rntc.rpriseb, Ministry of Public Health USSR.
