Compared with existing loaonotivea, the new one has two steam engines with a total capacity of 3,000 hpy which is 1,000 by more than the Series-L locomotive. The first 'run was made from Eh rkov to Moscow, a distance of 760 kilometers. The looomotiw, 23 deters long, is ectrcipped with tvc joined Diepl engines with a combined capacity of 2,000 hp. The electric power developed by the 84n - orators Is transditted to eight traction motors on the axles of the locomotive. Operation of the l.ooonotiwe is neohsuisud to the highest degree. Nce? ex- ample, the Diesel engines are started by pressing a button an theengiaeer's panel. All operations are controlled by a single handle while tb4 train is in notion. The engineer is able to regulate simultaneously the operation of the Diesel engines, the generators, and the traction motors, by turning this handle. One of the outstanding features of the now locomotive is the economy of its operation, e.g., it used only 2.6 tans of Diesel fuel in the express ron frasi Ihaarkav to Moscow. Sovetskaya Estoniya, No 32, 9 Fab 49 The Lianozovskiy Railroad Car-Building Plant near Moscow, and the Plant imeni Yegorav in I?ningrad have started; production of a new type all metal passenger coach. Both plantc converted to the new type of production in a short time. The new all-z?stalcars have already been included in long-distanne passenger trains on they Moscow-Vladivostok, Moscow-Chelyabinsk, Moscow-Riga linen, and others. The new design shows considerable improvonent over the old cars. The heat- ing system has been improved. The interior planning includes more conveniences for passengers. Spacious luggage ca`partments are installed under the seats. Both plants are to fulfill the 1949 gross-production plan by 5 DeoMber, the anniversary of the Stalin Constitution. Both plants 'nil operate mrefitably, the Kola Plant to make not lose than 5 million rubles above the plan and the "&aenoye Soansowo" ''lent not less than 8 million rubles.
