Tergu. Mures (46?33'N, 24?33'E) a centuries old. tour.
which had a population of about 50 thousand in 1944. From 1940 to 1944, & r_,.ng
the occupation by the Hungarian army, this town was called Msrosvasorhrl;f. Ah,at
two kilometers southwest of the town is a small village. The Bun?srlar. name for
it was Medgyesfalva. I d.. not know the Rumanian name for this village. Ts:ga:
Mures is situated in a valley. On the southern side of the town there is a fatrly
steep hill or small mountain. On the east side of the Mures River the valley PN:-

genaral topography of the town is rolling.
2. Almost all 'the streets are paveivit:a asphalt and are two lanes wide. *SoW.Ve-

throughout the entire street system.
3. Residences are chiefly of brick construction with hip roofs covered with red
slats. Most residences located in the central part of town have three or four
stories, while the majority of the other homes are two-story. The heaviest con-
centration of residences is in the southern part of the town. Most homes are
heated with rat+ara1 gas, most have running water and electricity. Host persons
own their homes and do not rent them.
4. Population is chiefly. Rungarian. Rumanians constitute the largest minority
group although there is a small German minority group. People eat the principal
meal at noon. Motion pictures and concerts are preferred forma of ansement and
soccer football is the favorite sport.

bricklayers and carpenters.

8. Drill field for soldiers. I cannot give dimensions but medium size
passenger airplanes could land here.

12. Military barracks. I?do not know how many soldiers could be quartered here.

from 50 to 200 meters. The river floods almost every spring but does not
damage the .town buildings because the overflow is confined chiefly to the
north side of the river where there are only a few buildings.
