1.. At the Chemische Werke Buna-Schkopau,, repairs to the power plant were
finished about the middle of August 'and the power supply again becue
adequate. Dlore men are being taken on because two new: shops have hf~ert
added in the northern part of the works. The number ofjemployees ws 11 be
lr 3ed from the present 18,140 to 19,200.
The -,.w ,,hops will prodi>.ce chiefly heat-resistant fibrous materials.
Producti..,.s cannot begin for about two months because no~.zle pipes are
lacking. These cannot be manufactured in the Soviet Zone because the
equipm~at has mostly been dismantled. There is also a! l&ck of necessary
metals: platinum, rhodium, nickel and vanadium, according to repo,:. The new
materials to be produced are said to be Soviet deve7'mments of silicon
compounds, wh._:u already have been tested. However,...Lfficulties exist
over materials, mainly from a shortage of aluminium oxide.
3. Carbide production is continually coming up against difficulties bec:wise
no.. enough pure counter-electrodes are provided. For the present, noweves,
these difficulties are overcome.
