Political Screening of University Candiaates
1. ItIn Bulgaria today any young man is in a yuition to finish a general
secondary school so Ir,mg as he ia not considered an avoWed opponent of the
regime. Under that Classification fall the sons or brothers of persona
convicted by the Peoples' courts during 1944-45 or of persons who took an
ectivc part in the pOlitical fight with the Communists during 3945-47
(i.e. who were trusted followers of the opposition during ,he parliamentary
elections in 1946, or who ran on tickete of the opposition parties, etc).
Also under that claesification fall atudents who arc caught themselves in
anti-Commaniat activities. Stmcation at vocational or technical accondary
achoola is more diftieult to complete. Candidates for matriculation must
prove their loyalty to the CP and to the regime.
