1. U Career Symposium: On Friday, 31 March, Recruiter
25X1A EEEEEJJ~ participated in the First Annual Career Symposium
25X1A
sponsored by George Washington University's School of Public
and International Affairs. The theme was internationally-related
career opportunities. Other participants on the Government
panel were from the Department of Commerce and the Agency for
International Development. Some 100 students at the graduate
and undergraduate level in International Affairs and Foreign
Area Studies were in attendance. The presentation was well
received and many expressed an interest in Agency employment.
Students asked numerous questions, primarily concerning career
opportunities. No one expressed any anti-CIA sentiments.
2. (U) Minority Recruitment: Recruiter of 25X1A
our - office reports that a recruiting visit to the Law
School of Texas Southern University, a black campus, was
successful. He briefed a group of students in the morning
and interviewed several good applicants after the briefing
session.
3. (U) Special Recruitment: Recruiter 25X1A

of Indiana t at his visit there in company with
25X1A - of ~ is going well. They have visited several 25X1A
language department chairmen who have been very receptive to STATSPEC
inquiries regarding language training programs, trends in
student enrollment, and overall effectiveness of the language
instruction.
* 4. (U) Agency Criticized at Professional Meeting: Agency
officials who were in atten ance at the annual meeting of the
Association for Asian Studies in Chicago on 30 March report
that a motion was offered to expel CIA employees from the
organization. The motion was offered because it was alleged
that the Agency is blocking the granting of visas to students
and academicians who want to travel abroad. The motion was
rejected by the Association, but apparently by only a few votes.

5. (U) Presidential Management Intern Program: Fifteen
finalists in the Presidential Management Intern Program have
called to request consideration for the Agency's one position.
6. (U/AIUO) Retirement Activity: The figures shown below
depict the total retirement activity for the period l January
through 30 June.1978. The figures in the clear show totals.
The figures in parentheses represent persons who have opted for
discontinued service or "involuntary" retirement; the figures
in parentheses are included in the total figure. Thus, of 148
persons to go by 30 June, 52 are going under the "liberal" options.

7. (U/AIUO) External Employment Assistance: To date, 89
employees on the Operations-Directorate re uction. list have asked
for employment assistance. Forty-three (43) resumes have been
prepared for those clients who are ready to mount an intensive
job search. Four employees have already located employment
outside the Agency.
8. (U) Agency's Honor Awards Program - Readers Digest:
A meeting was held in Mr. Hetu's office on - April regard a
request by the Reader's Digest to write an article concerning
the Agency's Honor an Merit Awards. At Mr. Hetu's request,
five citations for approved Intelligence Stars were reviewed
by the recommending offices, the Office of Security, and the
Central Cover Staff, and sanitized versions have been approved
for showing to the Reader's Digest representative, today,
6 April. Mr. Hetu has also requested that xeroxed copies of
the recommendations and citations of all Intelligence Crosses (8)
and all Intelligence Stars (159) be given to his office. A
summer intern (graduate journalism student) will be entering
on duty next month and she will be assigned to catalog these
in the form of three or four sentence summaries for future use
by the Public Affairs Office.

10. (U/AIUO) Sav:inks Bonds Drive: Fifty-five (55)
Vice Chairpersons and 786 Keypersons from the various Directorates
have been designated to assist in the forthcoming Savings Bonds
Drive during the month of May.

12. (U) Softball'Diamonds: The EAA Coordinator has
contacted the maintenance Supervisor of the National Park Service
and arranged for preparation of the softball diamonds adjacent
to Route 193. The fields are now in reasonable good condition
and practice has started for the EAA softball leagues. The
first game is scheduled for 1 May 1978.
13. (U) Suggestion Box:. No suggestions were received
this week. The total number of suggestions received since the
program began on 15 June 1977 is 47.
