porters.
popular Unity (Up) members and extreme leftist
groups are apparently opening their arsenals in or-
der to enhance the effectiveness of their "'self-
defense" street brigades. The opposition parties

North Vietnam: A delegation headed by Party
First Secretary Le Duan and Premier Pham Van Dong
left Hanoi on 8 July for an official visit to Mos-
cow. The North Vietnamese will take the occasion
to thank the Soviet Union for its wartime support,
and wil~~ o seek additional military and economic
USSR-Cambodia: The Soviets are showing some
signs of greater warmth toward Prince Sihanouk.
Soviet ambassadors turned out for at least three of
the airport welcomes during Sihanouk's recent ex-
tensive. trip, a departure from the usual past prac-
tice of sending lower-level representatives. None-
theless, the Soviets are still talking to the Lon
Nol government.
Uganda: Ugandan authorities--with President
Amin in command--are holding 112 Peace Corps volun-
teers in a hotel in Entebbe. Their plane was ox-
dered to return to Entebbe after an earlier refuel-
ing stop. Amin has voiced suspicion that the volun-
teers are mercenaries on their way to engage in sub-
versive activities in Burundi or Rwanda.
South Asia: The Pakistan National Assembly
will meet today to discuss granting recognition to
Bangladesh. President Bhutto reportedly will speak
in favor of recognition and may ask for authority
to do so whenever he decides it is in the national
interest--presumably after agreement is reached on
some of Pakistan's outstanding problems with India
and Bangladesh.
