VIA-CHILE: The main focus of anti-govern-
ment c ivity by the Bolivian left may soon shift
back to La Paz from Santiago. Members of the Anti-
Imperialist Revolutionary Front in Bolivia appar-
ently are challenging Chilean-based exiles for
leadership of the movement. They reportedly are
now coordinating the activities of the front's sev-
eral components and mean to ensure that the strug-
gle will be directed from within Bolivia. The
front, however, lacks both a unified command struc-
ture and clear lines of authority between its com-
ponents at home and abroad.
Chile's orthodox Communists may be tiring of sup-
porting the exiles, and their failure to progress
beyond verbal attacks on the Banzer regime could
be a sore point with the extreme left. Moreover,
many of the estimated 200-400 exiles are said to
have concluded that they can accomplish little in
Chile and are planning to try to return home. F
