Israel-Syria: Israeli leaders are growing more
impatient oche continued detention by Syria of
the two Israeli male passengers from the TWA air-
craft hijacked on 29 August. An Israeli Foreign
Ministry official emphasized again that their re-
lease is still a US responsibility. He pressed for
"heavier leverage" than that provided by TWA, the
Pilots Association, and the ICAO. He was still ad-
amant that Syria release the two unconditionally and
that Damascus disabuse itself of any thoughts of a
quid pro quo such as an exchange for the two Syrian
ilots the Israelis hold.

Lebanon-Israel: Last night Israeli commandos
claimed to have destroyed 12 buildings and killed
at least five fedayeen in southern Lebanon. Their
objective was to punish fedayeen based in Lebanon
for a rocket attack which killed two Israelis in a
border village. Coming after recent napalm air
strikes against other Lebanese villages in the same
area, the raid will further weaken President Hilu's
resistance to a strong fedayeen presence operating
on Lebanese soil and draw traditionally neutral
Lebanon further into participation in the Arab-
Israeli conflict.
