Latin America: Various extremist groups in
Ecuador and Venezuela plan to demonstrate against
Governor Rockefeller and his party.
In Ecuador, where the Governor will arrive to-
day, Communist and other leftist groups are organ-
izing for demonstrations, but their plans seem to
be uncoordinated and still in the formative stage.
The Velasco government is looking forward to the
Governor's arrival and has warned potential trouble-
makers to behave. President Velasco has also or-
dered that extensive security precautions be taken
to ensure a successful visit.
25X1
Governor Rockefeller's arrival in Venezuela
early next week is likely to provoke violent anti-US
demonstrations. 25X1
President Caldera has
c e eman s that e trip be canceled and has
stated that his government is determined to protect
the Governor and maintain public order.
There were minor student demonstrations through-
out Colombia prior to the Governor's arrival there
on 27 May. Heavy security precautions in Bogota
have kept incidents there to a minimum 25X1
