Ethiioo?ia: The Ethiopian Government has placed
its arme forces on standby alert as a precautionary
measure against possible student violence in Addis
Ababa. The government apparently has also been
moving military units in and around the city in the
hope that a display of its preparedness will dis-
suade the students from holding demonstrations.

who personally arrested Prime Minister Adnan Men-
deres in 1960, is anathema to Prime Minister Demirel's
Justice Party. If the appointments are made and
Demirel approves them, he may be faced with a re-
newed challenge to his leadership by the right-win
faction of his party, F
