Antiregime leaders on the Jordan West Bank have announced plans to hold a "popular conference" in Jerusalem on 5 December to "study the national situa- tion. " Although this could be a means to convey popu- lar dissatisfaction into orderly channels, the likeli- hood is that its leaders will use the conference to exacerbate the situation. Both Syrian and Egyptian propagandists continue to denounce the Jordanian Government. The radical Baathist regime in Damascus has called for the forma- tion of a "progressive front" in Jordan to overthrow Husayn by means of a "war of liberation. In April, Premier Kosygin said publicly that it "must be ready in four or five months" for final approval by the Supreme Soviet. However, that body's meeting in August did not take up the plan. Egypt: The government has now agreed to un- freeze the Ford Motor Company's assets in Egypt in return for a bank guarantee of $1, 150, 000, pending a final decision on Egypt's customs claim against Ford. Contrary to press reports, the Ford plant in Alexandria has not been seized.
