US troops in Operation PAUL REVERE II along the Cambodian border in southeast Pleiku Prov- ince fought a five-hour engageibent with a battalion- size North Vietnamese force on 15 August. The action took place near the Chu Pong mountain area, the scene of earlier heavy fighting and long a Com- munist stronghold, (See Map) Late reports indicate that sporadic contact is continuing, although adverse weather is hamper- ing US efforts to encircle the enemy force. Elements of several airborne and other ground force divisions ap- parently will be transported by rail and air from the western military districts of the USSR to Czechoslovakia to demonstrate the USSR's growing capability for rapid reinforcement of Eastern Europe. The final communique of the congress specifically endorsed "armed struggle" as the best vehicle for revolution in Latin America and urged students to take up arms against "Yankee imperialism.
