3. Nicaraguan president feels "doublecrossed by United States":
Nicaraguan president Somoza told
American newsmen on 9 February that
he would tell Vice President Nixon dur-
ing his forthcoming visit that Nicaragua
Organization of American States and in fighting Communism
throughout Central America, while the "left-wing" government
of Costa Rica permits Communists to operate freely.
Somoza gave the impression that he is
deeply hurt and feels he has been doublecrossed because the
United States did not act "in a neutral manner" in the recent Costa
Rican revolution "despite all of his support:, He hinted that the
United States, because of its aid to the "Communist-infiltrated"
Costa Rican government, may lose the support of a sizable bloc
of anti-Communist Latin Ama'ican governments in the UN and the
OAS.
