1. It is believed that China has not supplied any military
aid to North Korea since the 1950's. China formerly had furnished
ground equipment, infantry weapons, and ammunition to the North
Korean forces. Since the mid-1950's, however, North Korea has
developed its own production capability in these items. Major
military equipment deliveries presently are believed to be entirely
of Soviet origin. (SECRET/NO FOREIGN DISSEM)
2. In 1966 three (3) percent of Japan's total trade was with
Communist China as compared with 29 percent with the US. From
China's point of view, however, trade with Japan is especially
significant representing 15 percent of total Chinese trade. Japan,
in fact, replaced the USSR in 1966 as China's principal trading
