INTELLIGENCE MEMORANDUM
The Dominican Republic Situation Report
(Report as of 10:30 AM EST)
1. As of 7:30 AM EST there had been no report
of violence in Santo Domingo during the night ex-
cept for the previously mentioned killing of Orlando
Bonnelly. No violence has been reported in Santiago
either.
2. Radio stations in the capital appeared on
the air on schedule this morning and mentioned the
refusal of the Dominican military chiefs to step
down in their resume of yesterday's news events.
The military-controlled Radio San Isidro carried
martial music interspersed with recorded statements
of the military's position. The station assured the
populace that "it had nothing to fear." Santiago
stations continued to broadcast anti-Communist declara-
tions by area military commanders and carried a
statement by Garcia Godoy's uncle ridiculing the
possibility of holding elections in the near future.
4. As of this hour there is no additional in-
formation concerning the scheduled meeting this
morning between Rivera Caminero and President Garcia
Godoy, as mentioned in the 6:00 AM EST Sitrep.
