The Indonesian Situation

Sukarno summoned all military commanders-.in;the
Dja'.zarta area to Bogar today. Also present at the
meeting were First Deputy Prime Minister Subandrio
and Second Deputy Prime Minister Leimena. According
to the communique issued after the meeting, Su'-arno
called for "tranquility and order" to settle a situ-
ation which "basically involves political issues".
This is further indication that Sukarno does not in-
tend to sanction an Army crackdown on the PKI. In
his first allusion to the six assassinated generals,
Sukarno also stated, that "those who fell victim to
the so-called 30 September movement are heros of the
revolution".

of Air Force involvement in the coup attempt over
Radio Indonesia. Referring to Su'karno's earlier
statement absolving the Air Force of complicity in
the plot, Suharto stated that while the service as
a whole may possibly be innocent, "elements" of the
Air Force were definitely guilty.

Adjie warned today on Radio Indonesia that the "Army's
patience has its limits and those who do not wish to
understand will be faced with overwhelming force".
