Approved For Ref se 2007/03/06 S R r79T00472A 400030021-8 OCI No. 1612/65 CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY Office of Current Intelligence 6 May 1965 State Dept. review completed INTELL IGENCE MEMORANDUM Situation in the Dominican Republic Report 1. Foreign Broadcast Information Service re- ports that the rebel-controlled "Radio Santo Domingo" abruptly left the air at 5:20 pm EDT without any explanation. A resumption of broadcasting or clarification of what has happened will be reported promptly. 2. Ambassador Bennett reports that when the Organization of American States commission in Santo Domingo was furnished with tape recordings of some inflammatory rebel radio statements to demonstrate that at least the spirit of the cease- fire agreement was being violated by the rebels, the commission took the rather legalistic approach that the broadcast had taken place before the "Act of Santo Domingo"had been signed. Ambassador Bennett commented that the earlier cease-fire agreement had been in effect for days. 25X1 5 5
