CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY
SUBJECT: Supplement to NIE-64 (Part I)
1. Reference is made to your memorandum dated 13 November
1952, subject as above.
2. Attached as Tab "A" are G-2 recommended changes to
NIE-64 (Part I) to make this estimate valid through 1954, as
requested in reference memorandum.

ESTIMA2E VALID THROUGH 1954
1. Pafe 2, pare. 8, first line:
For the words "Germany, Poland" substitute the word "Europe".
Reason: Eastern European air defense forces are expected to
increase substantially.
2. Page 4, pare 24, a:
The following ground force figures are, submitted for inclusion
in the totals for mid-1954 of Bloc armed forces strength:
USSR - no material change from mid-1953
European Satellites - Army Personnel Strength 1,740,000
" " Militarized Security Forces 268,000
Page 4, pares 28 last sentence:
For the word "change" substitute the words "increase substantially".
Reason: Eastern European air defense forces are expected to
increase materially, but are not expected to increase substantially the
Bloc total.
4. Page 5, para 32, within the parenthesis:
For "Eastern Germany, and Poland" substitute "Eastern Europe"
Reason: See paragraphs 1 & 3 above.
