COMMENT ON IZVESTIA EDITORIAL
An examination of the complete text shows that the Izvestia
editorial given so much publicity by the Associated Press is
standard in all respects. In general, it is a commonplace
eulogy of the Party's history, its leading role and the infal-
libility of the ideology on which it is based.
According to the AP ticker, Izvestia quoted from a 1946
speech by Malenkov, without mentioning his name, in which he
said that the Party views Marxism-Leninism as a developing
doctrine. A comparison of Malenkov's only speech in that year
with the editorial does not show any striking similarities and
certainly no quotations.
