The Department of State has asked the Intelligence Community to produce a current assessment of developments in Angola, focussing on the state of the insurgencies, the intra-MPLA tensions, and the implications of these for Neto's staying power and Angola's foreign relationships. 2. The paper is to be 10-12 pages, double spaced, and produced by Friday, 10 June. I have assigned the internal section to CIA/ORPA, and the foreign relationships section to State/INR. Drafts are to be in my hands by COB 7 June; we will circulate a combined draft on Wednesday, 8 June. 3. Agency representatives will meet to put the paper into final shape on Thursday, 9 June, at 0900 in Room 7E62, CIA Headquarters Building. Please come to this meeting prepared to put on the paper whatever "chop" your agency enpowers you to give. Thank you for your help.
