9. (Unclassified - KSN) LIAISON Cindy Mascioli, Senate Select
Committee on Intelligence staff, called to relay the following members and
staff who are planning to visit the on 21 October: 25X1
Senator Gary Hart (D., Colo.) and Senator Jake Garn (R., Utah) and staff
members Mike Madigan, Tom Connaughton, Elliot Maxwell, Mark Gitenstein,
Rick Inderfurth, Martin Gold, Stan Taylor, Howard Liebengood, Chip
Pickett, Charlie Kirbow, and Anne Karalekas. Some of these staff members
had also expressed interest in a budget briefing that same day, so the list
is not final..
10. (Unnclassified - DFM) BRIEF LNG Accompanied Senate Select
Committee on Intelligence staff members, Stan Taylor, Torn Connaughton,
Jean Evans, Mark Gitenstein, Martha Talley, and Martin Gold, to an all-day
orientation. briefing on the Agency. Mr. Knoche, DDCI, I QW4.1
and representatives of the four directorates made presentations. At the
end of the briefing, the staff members toured the Operations Center.
During the day, I SA/DO/O and I discussed Senator
Mark Hatfield's (R., Ore.) trip to the Far East in December with Martin
Gold, Senator Hatfield's designee on the staff.

1. (Confidential - GLC) LIAISON Called Bill Miller, Staff Director,
Sena Select Committee on encea, and told him that I thought the
session yester ay own at with Mike Madigan and Rick Inderfurth25X1
also of the Committee staff, went very well. I said we had discussed
several other matters including the question of the number of staff
traveling to on 21 October. I made it clear that Mr. Knoche
has said that we would accommodate as many as the Committee wanted
but that Inderfurth and Madigan had reservations on how many should go.
I told Miller that Madigan and Inderfurth said they would. check on this
`nd be back in touch with us.
I also mentioned to Miller that we had received. a call from
Walt Sheridan, Chief Investigator, Subcommittee on Administrative Practice
and Procedures, Senate Judiciary Committee, saying that the Subcommittee
was going to conduct "oversight inquiries" into the death of Orlando Letelier.
Miller agreed that we should contact Sheridan and tell him that the Agency
is cooperating with the Department of Justice within our guidelines, that
this is a domestic investigation and any information they seek should
come from Justice.
2. (Secret - GLC) BRIEFING George Murphy, Executive Director,
Joint Committee on Atomic Ener called requesting a briefing for himself
on n connection with his impending trip
on 5 November. Murphy said his main interest is in speaking to some
of our DDO people who may have currently returned from these stations
and would be able to give him a fill-in. A tentative date of Wednesday,
20 October at 10:00 a. in, has been scheduled. SA/DO/O, and 25X1
OCI, have been advised. is handling 25X1
for OLC.)
3. (Unclassified - GLC) LIAISON Bob Wolthius, White I-louse
staff, called and said that the Special Prosecutor had announced today that
the investigation concerning President Ford and Kent County, Michigan has
been concluded and that it was determined that the President in no way
violated the law.
I asked Wolthius if he knew if H. R. 13615, the CIARDS legislation,
was on the President's desk for signature and what the time frame was.
Wolthius said that the President would have until 18 October to sign the
bill.
