SUBJECT: Request for CIA Combined
Telephone Directory
I understand a new Combined Telephone Directory was issued in
March 1975, but this office is not on distribution.
Agency telephone directories, both the Combined Secure Telephone
Directory and the regular CIA Directory, have been assigned to the
CIA Liaison Office in OEOB since the early 1960's. They prove
invaluable in our daily work in locating the appropriate employees
whom we have need to contact. In our liaison duties we are often
asked by other NSC staff officers to be put in touch with Agency
offices for assistance. Without the directories this effort would be
very time-consuming, as calls to known Agency numbers would be
necessary to "track down" the desired number, particularly since
the Agency operator does not reveal numbers for certain employees.
Maximum security facilities for storage are utilized for the directories.
They are kept at all times in a safe equipped with an alarm which is
activated when the office is closed. Only my secretary and I (both
Agency employees) have access to this safe, and the directories are
never carried away from the safe. No one else is permitted to use the
directories.
Since it would be most helpful to us in servicing the Agency, as well as
assisting the NSC Staff in its work with CIA, it is requested that I be
issued a copy of the CIA Combined Telephone Directory.

Would appreciate your help on this. The
red-tape machinery seems to have ground to
a halt after years of supplying us with
phone directories.
Part of our problem is illustrated by the
fact that I had to call Bambara last
week to ask for a phone number--one can't
do that too often. It would be better to
give us a phone book!
