The Navy had acquired photographic coverage of the PRIDNEPROVSK south of Bermuda on 12 January and identified the following equipment on deck: (a) three R820 radio van trucks; (b) three ZIL-157 workshop vans; (c) three generators; and (d) two POL tanks. OLD HEAD missions were not flown on 16, 17, and 18 January because of unfavorable weather. Mission 113 on 19 January covered Havana, Mariel, and other northern ports but neither the vessel nor evidence of her cargo was found. Search of available photography will continue and any significant results will be reported out immediately. Cuba Requirements 2. Following report, the Chairman stated that COMIREX canno 7 in ay longer in its consideration of updating the requirements for Cuba coverage and reporting to USIB. Since DIA reports that completion of the contingency planning requirements review is still some weeks off, it will be necessary to proceed to USIB without that information. I indicated that he would distribute shortly a draft paper for consideration by COMIREX members. The report to USIB can simply state that the revised intelligence requirement does not take the DoD contingency plan requirements into consideration because they are not available at this time. The Chairman reminded members of Committee discussions last October and the resulting COMIREX guidance to the NRO concerning Mission 1108 (see COMIREX-M-81). At that time, in view of the area search coverage deficiency, it was agreed the mission should be flown at the 100 n. m. altitude to obtain maximum area coverage, recognizing that this would be at the expense of some fall-off in quality. It was also agreed that the question of altitude for the next CORONA mission, 1109, would be considered after there had been an opportunity to study the results of 1108. 25X1 25X1A 25 Al 4. Mission 1109, scheduled for launch on 18 February, will have Ultra-thin Base (UTB) film. The NRO Consultant commented that the amount of search coverage obtained with UTB film in a satellite flown at an altitude of 85 n. m. is roughly equivalent to that obtained with Standard Thin Base (STB) film at 100 n. m. The NRO proposes to fly Mission 1109 at between 25X1A 85 and 90 n. m. It was agreed that this proposal permits obtaining the best quality imagery possible and a maximum achievement NRO 25X1 against the area search requirement. 25X1A 0 0 Approved For Release 2003/pep3S FrP79B01709A00099 Release 2003/0100?: SF.GR61F791301709X600900030006-5 -5 0 25X1A 2?u 4' 25X1 Approved For Release 2003/04/23 : CIA-RDP79BO1709A000900030006-5 Next 1 Page(s) In Document Exempt Approved For Release 2003/04/23 : CIA-RDP79BO1709A000900030006-5 W A 25X1A 253(1A 0 Approved 1706'A000900030006-5 C OMIREX -M - 8 7 22 January 1970 25X1A FY 1970 Basic Requirements: Deployed Commo/Elec/Radar Facilities (COMIREX-D-31.4/70-25) 10, In view of the apparent length of today's meeting, the Chairman requested that members notify the Executive Secretary of their comments on or concurrence in this paper. /Subsequent to the meeting, all members concurred in COMIREX-D-31. 4/70-25. / the FY 1971 National Reconnaissance Program COMIREX Review of Imagery Reconnaissance Requirements for 11.
