n Approved For Release 2009/08/31: CIA-RDP79B00972A000100530023-8 SLUKL 21 July 19 69 -_ MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Central Intelligence SUBJECT: Attached Query frarrxenator Cooper 1. When I picked up the attached from Senator Cooper at his home on Friday evening (18 July), he said that: a. Several of his colleagues including Symington and Hart had participated in its drafting and "for some reasonyl ought to sign it. " b. A similar query has gone to Secretary Laird. c. The Agency should be proud of the compliments paid us by both sides during the secret debate on Thursday, the 17th. 2. Senator Jackson is out of town until this evening (Monday) so I haven't raised the question with him. I have talked to Dorothy Fosdick (not about this letter.) She says that: b. Senator Symington has given up the idea of another secret session, whatever information we give: Cooper and company maybe used in open session. 3. Bruce Clarke's office is preparing a piece of paper addressed to Cooper's questions which should be ready by noon today. I believe it will say, in essence, that there has been a change since May 22 -- that instead of "8 or 9" it will say "9 or 10.." JOHN M.
