Approved For Rase 2007/03 NBC- bb'b'&UA 200020057-5 83 #18 EASTERN EUROPEN INTELLIGENCER. nCI #0976/72 26 Sept 1972 State Dept. review completed Polish Accusations Against Two Embassy Officers A. Polish foreign ministry official called on our embassy in Warsaw last Friday to protest the actions of two embassy officials. The Pole claimed that the two had tried to assist East Germans to get to West Germany and produced photostats of papers to back his allegations. An embassy investigation left no doubt that the charges were complete fabrications. The DCM intends to return the visit today, make an oral rejection of the protest, and express surprise that such groundless charges should have been made. Embassy personnel can suggest no Polish motivation for making such obviously trumped-up charges. Perhaps the entire scenario may have been planned by the security forces as a reminder to us that, despite improving relations between Poland and both the US and West Germany, US personnel will continue to be watched close- ly. Yugoslav Goes on Trial for Ustashi Ties Twenty-five year old Midhat Mujanovic went on trial in Tuzla, Bosnia-Hercegovina on Monday for alleged ties to anti-communist Croat separatists in West Berlin. The indictment accuses Mujanovic of working for the late emigre ustashi leader, Dr. Branko Jelic. The defense has entered a plea of not guilty. Mujanovic, however admits he did visit Dr. Jelic's office once, but denies distri- buting Croatian nationalist propaganda. He claims the pamphlets were planted on him. After the first day's proceedings the trial temporarily adjourned, apparently in order to allow the defense time to study damaging testimony from the prosecution's chief Approved For Release 2007/03/ (- ML001200020057-5
