TID-63/66 25 March 1966 MEMORANDUM FOR: Executive Director, NTIC SUBJECT: NFIC Participation in Upcoming International Society for Photogrammetry Meetings 1. It speaks well for the management and policy of NPIC that several Center personnel were permitted to attend the International Photogrammetry meetings at Lisbon, Portugal, in 1964. Through attendance at such meetings contact is maintained and developments observed at the international level in the field of photogrammetry and photographic interpretation. It is my opinion that this contact is significant and should be continued. Also I feel it is important that the Center maintain this level of contact during the four years between international photogrammetry meetings. 2. In this period between international meetings, the seven (7) commissions of the International Society continue as active working and study groups preparing for the next international meeting and conducting studies in photogrammetry and photographic interpretation and related subjects. 3. This spring, summer and fall these commissions are holding a series of meetings. The first of these, The International Symposium on Spatal Aerotriangulation, by Commission III was held at the University of Illinois the week of 28 February - 4 March 1966. From 18 to 23 April 1966 50X1 there will be a combined meeting of all seven commissions at Bad Godesberg, Germany, which will include a SyMlOosiUm on Automation in Photogrammetry by Commission II. 50X1 It is here most of the plans for the 50X1 1968 International Society for Photogrammetry IX Congress in Lausanne, Switzerland, will be firmed up and decisions made regarding invited papers. In August 1966, Commission IV is holding a meeting in Prague, Czechoslovakia, on Photogrammetry in the Measurement of the Earth's Surface. From 19 to 23 September 1966, GROUP 1 Excluded from automatic downriAng and deciassilicetica CONFIDENTIAL Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2013/08/07 : CIA-RDP79B00752A000300080001-7 De-classified in Part- Sanitized Copy Approved forRelease2013/08/07 : CIA-RDP79B00752A000300080001-7 SUBJECT: NPIC Participation in Upcoming International Society for Photogrammetry Meetings Commission I is holding a symposium in London to discuss photographic image quality. This Commission, chaired by the U.K., has four separate investigation groups studying: a) image quality; b) measurement of the image; c) photo materials; and d) new equipment and methods in flying photography. The following week, 26 to 30 September 1966, in Paris, Commission VII, Photographic Interpretation under French Chairmanship, is meeting on Methods of Photographic Interpretation_ Then in October, there is a symposium on the Technical and Economic Setup of a Photogrammetric Enterprise, to be held in Florence, Italy. Also during October, in Tokyo, Japan, there will be an international meeting covering Photogrammetry in Civil Engineering and Industry, sponsored by Commission V. 4. From the above list of activities, I believe there are three at which this Center should have representation: the meeting of the seven commissions at Bad Godesberg, Germany, in April; the September meeting of Commission I on Image Quality held in London; and the September meeting of Commission VII in Paris. covering Photoaraphic Interpretation. Past experience has shown that at these symposiums there are often several groups meeting simultaneously and one person can not cover all the activities. 6. Our business is photographic interpretation and photogrammetry and the thinking, developments, and studies performed by other groups, in particular those we do not have frequent contact with, should be known to the Center. I believe this is time well spent.
