2. The HG-~8 is a small, hand crank, 28-volt generator used
either to charge 28-volt batteries or to power the RT-4~8 transmitter
on-line. Its dimensions are ~ 7/8 x 22 x 1 7/8 inches; its weight
is 22 lbs. Although a total of only 110 RT-4~8 transmitters are
being built, an improved version of this transmitter, the RT-59, is
now being tested in prototype form and it is reasonably certain that
at least 100 of these units will be procured. The HG-~8 is compatible
-with the RT-57 and its BS-57 power supply. Fabrication, except for
minor electronics, will be accomplished by an outside firm.
3. The CK-28 i~s a coder-keyer developed by the laboratory.
Its size is 3 x 5k x l4 inches and its weight is 1 lb. It is -there-
fore approximately one-half the weight and two-thirds the size of
the CO-8/KE-8/CA-3 combination. The CK-28 is numerical only and has
a storage capacity of It is completely solid

per-cent of the wopk on this unit will be done at the OC laboratory.

Subject: Procurement of New Equipment
4~. The CK-31 is a coder-keyer. Using many of
the same components as the CK-28, it also has no moving parts and
is silent in operation. Its size is 2 7/8 x 1 7/8 x 1 inches and
its weight is about 6 oz. It allows the user to send a -
message. As used in the RS-516, it keys a RT-~2 VHF transmitter
at 300 wpm. Conventional- receiving equipment is used for
reception. It is planned to marry the CK-31 to the 1 cubic inch
RT-57 transmitter (service test models of which are due in early
May) in order to provide a system substantially smaller in size
than the RS-516. About ,75 per-cent of the work on this unit will
be done at the OC laboratory, the remainder by a local contractor.
