1. This memorandum requests approval far the acquisition
of three. Honeywell H--316 computers,three memory modules and
two model 37 ASR teletype sets at a cast of $50,720.
2. Reference (a} was an approval for the .acquisition of
three Honeywell H-316 computers and associated peripherals to
b.~ assembled into Field Cryptographic Processors by the ?ffice
of Communicat:~.ons, Special Programs Division. Reference (b}
was a.n approval to modernize and expand the Special Programs
Division?s headquarters facility supporting these field pro-
cessing systems. Reference (c) was an approval for the
acquisition of six Automatic Telegraph Terminal Units, two
each fiscal year, 1972 through 1974. All. of -these approved
acquisi-bons have been implemented..
3. Two of the -three new computers requested herein will
be used to assemble two additional Field Cryptographic Proces-
sors and will be installed as companion systerns to the two
Automatic Telegraph. Terminal Units far Fiscal Year 1972, refer-
ence (c) above. The third computer will be used, to replace
the Honeywell H-516 computer operating in the prototype system
in Saigon. This computer has exhibited significant maintena:rce
problems and will be disposed of_ through normal logistical
channels.
