Subject: JANIS Priorlty List
1. Informal diacussion af the JANIS priority list TrTith
mer:ibers af Joint War P1.ans Committee brought out a neecl for sorne
revision of 'Ghe list, and the Director, JISPB Tqas asked to make
recommendations.
2. The Joint Topogranhical Subcommittee at its lOlst Pdeet-
ing agreed to the following revisions of iTANIS priority list:
a. to raodify baundariea of JANIS 57, Trans Ura1 USSR,
and JArdIS 67 , Northea.stern Siberia, ta corresnond ti�rith -aoZi-
tical and econoMic units, and that the name for JANIS 67 be
changed to Eastern Siberia, USSR to agree with Russia.n usage.
The date of completion to remain a.s scheduled. Boundaries
are indicated on the ottachecl man.
b. that a JANIS on Far Ea.stern Siberia, USSII (JANIS 63)
be added ta ttie Dri.ority list. This JANIS will combine a.nd
revi$e JANIS 73, Svutheastern Siberia, JAT3IS 78, KaMChatka,
JAIIIS 79, SAkhalin, JANIS 80, Kurile Islands. JANIS 63 will
then supersede JAIJIS 73, 78, 79, and 80, which are inadequate
in light of captured documents now a.vailable. DPte of com-
pletion for JATJIS 63 not to be seheduled prior to 1 July 1948.
c. that Brazil be divided into two areas instead af the
schedtzled three. TheUe areas to be JANIS 300, Eastern Brazil,
inel.uding the stateat Rlo Grande Do Sul, Santa Ca'tharina,
Parana, Sao Paulo, Hio De Janerio, Santo, Minas Geraes, Bahia,
Piauhy, 1'ernambuco, Sergipe, Alagoas, Parahyba, Ric Grande Do
Norte, Ceara, Maranhao; and JANIS 307, North-tqestern Brszil,
com-orieing the rest of the country. ihese bounda.ries are indi-
caLed on ttie attached man.
d. that JANIS 45, Sea.r and Jan Mayen Islanda and JANIS
46, Snitzbergen Archipelago be drapped and JANIS 47, the Nvrth
Polar Area be subatituted. JANIS 47 will include aIl isla_nds

JANIS 81 Northern Janan, JAIdIS E35, Central JapRn, and JANTS 84
Southvrest Japan, might be combined into a revised JAPdIS on Japan.
In view of present priorities it is inadvisable to set a ds.te for
completion of revised studies at this time.
