An interesting development was the fact that research problems that were levied upon other parts of ORR were answered in some cases primarily upon the basis of information contained in D/GG reports. Personnel from the Geographic Area who participated in the exercise will meet tomorrow to discuss the deficiencies in the handling of the exercise and the 25X1A9a deficiencies of the facilities at the Relocation Center. will be chairman of his group, which will prepare a critique upon the exercise. 25X1 A9a 2. asked about progress on the preparation of the list 25X1A9 of private institutions to receive unclassified materials on the USSR. reported that has prepared the list and that it 25X1 A9a 25X1 A911 be transmitted to i s afternoon, so that a final distribution ist for the 1:2,500,000 USSR sheets can be completed. 25X1 A9a 3. reported that a definite effort is being made to get the Area statements on Career Development consolidated into an ORR paper during the next few weeks. Any changes in the Divisional career development statements should be in as soon as possible. 25X1A9a i.. commented that space problems are getting critical in D/GG and that during the next few months a reshuffling of space will be required. 25X1 A9a 5. Plans for NATO photo intelligence units and centers are being firmed up, according to , and D/GP will attempt to keep abreast of new developments. 25X1A9a 6. reported on his active duty at the amphibious training center at Little Creek, Virginia, near Norfolk. The time was devoted to operational intelligence problems, and the course was excellent. t3A IE 372044 Approved For Release 1999/09/21 : CIA-RDP79-01096A000200050014-4 Approved For Release 1999/09/21 : CIA-RDP79=01096A000200050014-4 25X1A9a 7. reported having received a request for information on external research contracts involving Government sponsorship of aerial s'ew' 25X1 A9a 8. commented on a letter from the American Society of Photogrammetry entitled "'Participation in International Photogramrmetric Tests", and also passed around a Preliminary Program for the VIIIth International Congress and Exposition of Photograannetry to be held at Stockholm in July 1956. 25X1A9a9. commented that he has been told by Reproduction personnel that the urgent D/GP reproduction requirements are cutting in on the 25X1 A9a fulfillment of requirements for other parts of the Geographic Area. said that he has discussed with the people in Reproduction the problem of added re uirements and that either will get in touch with 25X1 A9a to request official confirmation of the fact that the added 25X1 A9aY'emziremen s of D/GP will probably continue. 25X1A9a 10. asked whether the Geographic Area memorandum concerning positions open within the Geographic Area should include all vacant positions or only the unencumbered positions. It was agreed that only the unencumbered positions should be listed. 25X1A9a ii. reported that the AD/RR has indicated that additions to staff in the CIA budget for FY 1937 must be on the basis of new services, rather than improvement or augmentation of present services. 25X1 A9V2, commented that the Photo Intelligence staff study has been approve by age and Classification and goes to the DDS today for signature. 25X1 A9a 13. commented that he wants to work out a satisfactory solution to the problem o establishing an adequate map collection at the Vital Storage area. It appears on the basis of the recent exercise, that the most important countries should be covered at scales of possibly 1:100,000 and smaller and that a systematic selection should be made for these countries of the best special- subject maps available--including transportation, catmnulications, sociological, political and economic maps. Probably one person should be assigned full time to this problem until it is solved., including the problem of reference facilities for the collection. The collection would then have to be revised periodically in order to keep it current.
