At the Deputies' meeting, Mr. Wisner mentioned the possibility of a military coup in Lebanon. 25X1A2g 2. Spoke to Messrs. Wisner and _ respecting the unsatisfactory situation as to the timely delivery of cables having intelligence interest. Suggested that the Signal Center (and/or Cable Secretary) be authorized to disseminate to DD/I directly all cables of intelligence interest, and, par- ticularly, that any operational cables of sufficient intelligence interest to be shown to the Director be sent simultaneously to DD/I. Also suggested that DD/P accept 0/CI Is offer of a qualified body to review cables for items 25X1A2g 25X1A2 of intelligence interest. Mr. Wisner agreed and instructed to follow g through. indicated that he had already talked with 25X1A2g 25X1A2g 25X1A2g 3. Spoke to, of O/DD/P respecting a - 25X9A 25X1A2g suggested this procedure and I later phoned and informed him that somebody from CIA would be in touch with him. 25X1A9a 25X1X7 5. Consulted with Mr. Dulles respecting the revised form of NSC lll. 25X1A5a2 7. Spoke to Col. White regarding the desirability of 0/CI having a standby power plant, so that communications would not be inter- rupted during temporary electric service interruptions. Col. White under- took to follow through on this, since he agreed that such standby power was necessary and desirable. 8. Adm. Wenger that I did not intend to sit myself, but would 25X1A9a designate Messrs. Sheldon and for CIA. I suggested Polyzoides as a most appropriate chairman and Adm. Wenger agreed. Later informed Mr. Sheldon of this. 9. Spoke to Gen. Samford respecting the evaluation of the U.S. vulnerability stud and agreed to sit in with him and Dr. Hoover tomorrow. Also mentioned to Gen. Samford the necessity of designating a new chairman for the Watch Committee and noted that Col. Porterts nine had been suggested. Samford indicated that Porter would be unavailable, but undertook to think this over and phone me. I told Gen. Samford that it might be desirable to appoint a temporary chairman, for the time being. 10. Spoke with Mr. Armstrong of State and made arrangements to see him early next week respecting coordination of intelligence support for Psychological-Warfare, and related matters. 11. Also spoke with Mr. Armstrong on the problem of replacing chairman of the Watch Committee and requested him to phone after he had had a chance to think this matter over.
