As 7-Year-Old Boy Bends Forks & Spoons Using
Only Mental Power
A 7-year-old boy has gone on Brit-
ish television and duplicated the
amazing mind-bending feats of Is-
rael's Uri Geller ? twisting forks
and spoons out of shape through
an apparent use of mental power
alone.
Young Mark Shelley, of Ipswich,
England, saw Geller perform on TV
last November. "It looked so easy,"
he said, "I decided to try it myself.
"I had just finished lunch at home
and I sat with the fork in my hand and
thought about bending it. I concen-
trated with all my might and stroked
it like Uri Geller did.
"Suddenly, after 20 minutes, the
fork slowly bent. I was so frightened
I nearly dropped it. My friends and
my Mom didn't believe I could do it
until I showed them."
Dr. Edward Baston, a Cambridge
University metallurgist, told The EN-
QUIRER: "I have seen the boy do it.
I do not know how, but he certainly
bent the forks.
"There was no trickery involved. I
cannot explain it at all. It was amaz-
ing."
ENQUIRER correspondent Fred Pye
witnessed a public demonstration by
Mark and reported from London:
"Mark bent two forks and a spoon
while I was watching.
"Beforehand, I looked at the forks
and they were fine . . . just ordinary
kitchen utensils.
"Then a few seconds after he rub-
bed them, they began bending. I was
astounded."
Mark himself has no explanation
for his seemingly miraculous power.
any more than Uri Geller has for his.
Geller, 27, has been seen on American
and British TV recently, and has visit-
ed The ENQUIRER's office in Lan-
tana, Fla., where he has showed off
his fantastic feats. 'NO TRICKERY INVOLVED': That's what a Cambridge University
Mark performed on British TV him- metallurgist told The ENQUIRER after he had watched in amazement
self, successfully bending two forks as young Mark Shelley (above) bent several forks and spoons.
while viewers all over Britain watched
in amazement.
A neighbor of Mark's, Margaret
Bowles, 32, said: "It really is in-
credible to watch Mark bend a Spoon.
He stares at it, rubs it and it col-
lapses."
Mark's mother, Shirley Shelley, 27,
said: -The cutlery seems to bend like
rubber. It is just like magic, and quite
frighteping. Mark has become a nuis-
ance, though. He just keeps bending
things. The house is littered with bent
cutlery that cannot be used.
"We've had to threaten him with
bed if he doesn't stop,- she added.
But Mark has good reason for prac-
ticing. "I want to be a soccer player
one day," he said, "and perhaps my
special power will help me bend the
ball around the goalkeeper."
