Stanford Research Institute (SRI)
Paranormal Research Contract
1. Now that the SRI paranormal abilities investigation is
continuing for another year, a decision must be Made concerning
the dissemination of results and the knowledge of CIA involvement.
Although no other government agency is aware of the current status
of the investigation, several have at least partial knowledge

2. In addition to this direct awareness of CIA activities,
there is now a rapidly expanding public interest in parapsychology.

Much of this has been sparked by Uri Geller's willingness
to display his abilities in large public forums but is
clearly driven by a current willingness or need to consider
radical alternative explanations to many of life's unanswered
questions. This public inter6st will generate a group of
people who will assume that CIA is logically also interested
in these abilities.

direct knowledge or logical deduction who will request
information about CIA interest and results. There now is no
policy on handling such requests. Such a policy should be
formulated and responsibile individuals named to assure its
implementation.
4. As one possible alternate it is suggested that Dr.
Kenneth Kress, project office of the SRI investigation be
given the reponsibility and authority to determine disstimination
of the existence of and results from the SRI investigation.

The major justification for tiis suggestion is that he
will maintain the most complete awareness of the current status.
It is suggested that direct or indiuect requests for information
concerning the SRI project be coordinated with and manage by
Dr. Kress.
